Reiki
WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki was founded by Japanese Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui in 1922. After going on a spiritual quest on Mount Kurama, he found that he was able to channel a healing energy through his hands after fasting and meditating for 21 days. His experience further led him to develop the healing modality that is now known as Reiki. After this development, Usui was known to have trained about 2,000 students in this modality.
Reiki is translated to universal life force energy. In Japanese, Rei means “universal” or “spiritual” and ki translates to “life force energy.”
Reiki is able to assist in supporting energetic balance in the physical, emotional, and spiritual body by clearing the energy hubs stored in the body commonly known as chakras. Reiki can also help address any energetic blocks stored in the body that may be holding us back in physical and emotional ways. This can look like releasing stored trauma by crying, yawning, burping, and expressing yourself audibly. It can also look like releasing stagnant energy that is causing uncommon disorders such as autoimmune diseases and other ailments in the body.
When experiencing a Reiki session, it is important to remember that our bodies are incredible in the sense that they know exactly how to heal themselves, meaning your body is the one doing all of the work and healing, not the person sending you Reiki. The Reiki practitioner knows that they are simply the channel that allows the energy flow from the source, through the practitioner, and into the recipient. Once the energy is sent into the recipient, the body will send the energy into the areas it is needing it most.
For instance, if your intention for the session is to leave feeling more at peace in your body, but you’re also experiencing an intense headache that doesn’t seem to subside, your body will recognize that the energy needs to flow to the area of the head causing the headache. Simultaneously, the rest of the energy will be directed towards the heart space and root chakra, creating a sense of peace and safety.
Last thing to note about Reiki is that it understands free will. If you are in a space where you simply do not feel that you are ready to heal from past traumas, limiting beliefs, or physical ailments, Reiki will respect that energetic boundary and not bring anything to the light that you do not want shown. You have to be willing to accept the energy you are about to receive in order for things to change. If you do not accept the energy or do not feel you are ready, that is completely okay and please honor yourself for having that understanding. But please know you will not be able to receive the benefits of Reiki if you choose not to be open to the experience.
